Glaucoma – The Silent Thief of Eyes
Glaucoma is syndrome of symptoms like reduced field of vision, headache and blindness due to raised intra-ocular pressure. It is a second most cause of blindess after cataract. It may be asymptomatic, it’s like thief for the eyes and individual becomes slowly blind to notice it. Normal intra ocular pressure is between 10-20 mm of hg. Above 20 mm of hg it is said as glaucoma suspect and needs attention and to take opinion of ophthalmologist and supervision of introcular pressure. Once optic nerve damaged it is irreversible, so prevention and arrest is the best option at all stages of glaucoma.
It is measured with tonometer, which is few seconds test and painless with latest tonometers.
Glaucoma is treated either with medical measure or surgical measure by Glaucoma specialist.
